Right at the heart of Europe and Alsace, world class golfer Bernhard Langer has created a golfing paradise a mere 25 minutes from Baden-Baden and from Strasbourg.

The 33 greens and 18 lakes lie harmoniously nestled into the serene water meadow landscape of the Upper Rhine, surrounded by delightfully peaceful natural scenery and a world away from the hustle and bustle.

Langer fitted the courses into the wonderful landscape so expertly that a game of golf is a relaxing experience and players return to the clubhouse with a sense of satisfaction, no matter what their scorecard reads. In addition to the spectacular 18-hole championship course, members and guests have the choice between an attractive 9-hole course and a 6-hole short course, as well as luxurious practice facilities, all located within the 140ha site.

There are three or four golf clubs that call themselves after the city of Köln (Cologne), but Golf- und Land-Club Köln (Cologne Golf & Country Club) is the original and has the rest riding on its coattails – A 17-yearold Bernhard Langer bagged his first professional win here in 1975. Three years later the German Open came to town and Seve Ballesteros shot 20 under par to win by two shots. Despite the very dense forest, there is no glaring tree encroachment. The fairway bunkers are all visible and there are no overhanging limbs near the tees or greens. The atmosphere of the place is aptly described on the club’s website – “folks have been playing golf for a little longer here”. Few obvious concessions to the modern world have been made, but behind the scenes Köln is a very professional operation.

At the gates of Mainz, a vision became reality. An 18-hole championship golf course in the middle of the spectacular scenery of a former quarry. With two nine hole loops, they could hardly be more different. Narrow shafts, narrow rocky cliffs and high steep walls determine the game on the Canyon Course. Afterwards, the Panorama Course opens up the view into the Rheinhessische and the Rheingau. Each path fits harmoniously into the landscape in its own way. A place has been created that is both a sustainable ecological demonstration project as well as a golfing challenge unparalleled, suitable for golfers of all skill levels.

The Hilversumsche Golf Club is located on the Soestdijkerstraatweg 172 in Hilversum, where a road lined with majestic beech trees welcomes you to the beautiful, 100 year old forest course. In recent years, the course, located in the Kievitsdal, has been renovated by architect Kyle Philips, with the original landscape and aspects of the former architect Harry S. Colt being retained wherever possible. In 2010, all renovations were completed for the Hilversumsche Golf Club to host the KLM Dutch Open for the 25th time. The KLM Open, a four day grand spectacle of championship golf, is made possible with the help of many volunteers both within and outside the club.
